The Freelance South Africa Facebook Group recently expanded into creating its own freelancing platform.
The following is a Q&A with Frank Ogagba, the man behind it all…
Could you share your journey into web development and a bit about your background?
My journey began right after high school, where I leaped headfirst into the world of web development and design. I honed my skills by creating WordPress sites for friends and family, who graciously served as my willing guinea pigs. This initial foray ignited my passion for crafting compelling digital experiences.
Seeking to deepen my understanding and expand my horizons, I pursued a degree in Multimedia and Interactive Design at university. Since then, my path has taken me on a dynamic decades-long journey across various industries, from intimate web development studios to big financial institutions and fintech companies. Recently, I’ve embarked on a new adventure, focusing on creating innovative products tailored to address the unique needs of the South African market.
What motivated you and your team to develop the official website for Freelance South Africa?
We noticed something brewing among local clients: a need to easily connect with local freelancers. Our hunch was confirmed by the buzz in this community. We dived into local market research and found a glaring gap: no local options fulfilling this demand. So, we rolled up our sleeves and partnered with the Freelance South Africa group to bring the concept to life.
What distinct features does the website offer to freelancers that sets it apart from other platforms?
We launched a rudimentary website a few weeks back, aiming to offer a better alternative for clients and freelancers engaging in this group.
For clients, our platform allows you to:
– Post and manage projects with ease
– Find the perfect freelancer through user-friendly search and filters
– View detailed freelancer profiles
– Review and be reviewed
– Chat to freelancers
As for freelancers, you can:
– Showcase your services
– Search and discover relevant projects
– View detailed project briefs upfront
– Review and be reviewed
– Chat to clients
– Boost your visibility by subscribing to a monthly plan
We’re constantly on the lookout for feedback from our users, which helps shape our feature roadmap.

On the FSA website, finding the perfect freelancer for your project is a breeze. You’ve got multiple options: post your project and sit back as the proposals flood in, or dive into our user-friendly search tool to pinpoint freelancers with the exact skills, experience, and background you’re looking for.

Once added, clients can easily find and search for your services. And if you need to make any changes, easily edit your services on the website.
How do you perceive the role of technology in the future of freelancing, and how does your website align with these trends?
I see technology as the ultimate enabler for freelancing, making it easier for freelancers and clients to connect and work together. Artificial Intelligence, in particular, is taking the professional services sector by storm. automating and streamlining various tasks and shortening work turnaround time. We’re looking into using Artificial Intelligence to potentially simplify profile creation, and improve search and communication. As tech evolves, we’re dedicated to enhancing the freelancing experience on our platform.
What types of job opportunities can freelancers find on your website, and what is the process for applying?
There is no limit to the types of opportunities –
To view what’s available go to our projects page
To apply, simply sign in or create a profile, then message the client directly on our platform.
How does your team incorporate feedback and suggestions from users to improve the website?
We collect user feedback through posts in this group or direct emails.
Our feedback process is straightforward:
1. We thoroughly understand and analyse each feedback and suggestion.
2. Assess how many users share the same sentiment to prioritise it.
3. Brainstorm and build new features based on the feedback.
Are there any plans to expand the website’s features or services in the future?
Absolutely! We’re thrilled to make connecting freelancers and clients even better. We’re working on letting clients pay freelancers right on the platform. We’re also looking into enabling clients to place money in an escrow before starting a project, showing freelancers they’re serious about the budget. Also, we’re looking into simplifying how offers and proposals are exchanged between clients and freelancers.
